Day Four: The Royal Amphitheatre

Today, I decided to do something fun and spontaneous. So, I bought tickets to the most famous circus in London, The Royal Amphitheatre. From the outside, it appeared to be a regular building; however, once inside, the entire world seemed different. There were hundreds of people: children, factory workers, affluent individuals, all in the same place, waiting eagerly for the show to begin. The interior structural design was exceptionally well-planned, allowing for numerous possibilities for various types of performances in the future. Not only did The Royal Amphitheatre have a stage, but it also featured a circus ring at its center, connected by ramps (The Story of Circus). Furthermore, the building's rims were lined with bright green and red accents, and a huge chandelier hung over the central pit (Astley’s Royal Amphitheatre).

I took a seat as close to the pit as possible, so I could fully experience the show. When it started, the performers burst into the circus ring on horseback, all of them doing multiple tricks while the horses ran. In addition, there were multiple costume and scenery changes throughout the show, keeping the audience excited and on the edge of their seats (The Story of Circus).

One act that I remember vividly was called 'The Flying Wardrobe’, to which a younger boy rode on horseback pretending to be a drunkard in tethered up rags; however, after many false falls, he took off the rags and revealed himself as the star rider (The Story of Circus). As he performed, the crowd cheered him on with amazement in their eyes. Furthermore, acrobats were flying through the air, and clowns were putting on humorous acts. Far too soon, the show came to an end, and the crowd applauded. Then they started to make their way out of the Royal Amphitheatre. Everyone there seemed to enjoy themselves and forget about their mundane lives, which is precisely what I did.
